Job Description

Position: Senior Account Manager - Halifax (contract position)
Reports to:  Managing Director – Samantha Geer & President – Deirdre Campbell  
This position is actively involved in all areas of account services to tartanbond clients as directed by agency Director. This includes but is not limited to working on strategic plans and decisions for client portfolios as well as proactively managing any client or media crisis or issue that arises on behalf of the agency. A strong media network is essential for client success so building, maintaining and nurturing existing relationships with top-level local, national and international media (travel, food, fashion, business, lifestyle, tech, health, LGBT+, etc.) to secure coverage is a must. Duties may include hosting at events/dinners, meet and greet site tours and media press trips, planning and executing media and influencer drops/gifting/sponsorship opportunities as well as client facing activities (weekly briefing calls, month end and quarterly reports and strategic planning meetings). The Senior Account Manager will also work with the agency Director on business development to secure new clients and PR projects, helping to build pitches/proposals engaging in research and participating on presentations when required. Additionally, the Senior Account Manager is responsible for mentoring and overseeing junior staff on their responsibilities and goals as well as working closely with agency partners to ensure they meet agency standards and best practices.


Skills required: (must be located in Halifax)
  • Hospitality/hotel experience required
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated, highly organized and detail orientated
  • 4+ years MRPR experience required
  • Previous account management experience required
  • Agency experience advantageous
  • Previous database management experience required
  • Cision proficiency advantageous
  • Computer literate – Microsoft Word and Excel Spreadsheets essential, Mac OSX
  • Established contacts and relationships in media required; tourism, hospitality, corporate and event planning advantageous
  • Keen and genuine interest in travel, food, wine, fashion, beauty, lifestyle brands
  • Have a strong network of local media and business relationships in Halifax and Atlantic Canada 
A successful Senior Account Manager shows proficiency in completing the following activities:
General Responsibilities
Internal Relationships
  • Work with agency Director to research new business opportunities in terms of new client contracts, PR projects, brand alignments and potential new accounts for Halifax.
  • Ability to work remotely with team members across the country as this position will be the only position in Halifax to begin with.
  • Train and mentor junior staff, leading by example to ensure the team has very clear direction and roles of responsibilities across account portfolio.
  • Lead client, project and event discussions with team members to source creative plans.
  • Consistently demonstrate ability to successfully move into problem-solving mode whenever challenges or concerns arise.
  • Work well with and demonstrate respect for colleagues at all levels and consistently contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Work closely with agency Director to ensure that agency brand standards are exceeded within the eyes of all stakeholders.
  • Work with agency Director in arranging staff meetings and coordinate agendas.
  • Work with agency Director to prepare and implement public relations strategy plans for upcoming year.
  • Write and edit press releases and marketing collateral.
  • Contribute to social media platforms for tartanbond and client Facebook/Twitter/Instagram accounts; meet with core team members monthly to review agency social media activity.
  • Be fully conversant with Cision media database.
  • Oversee monthly reporting, tracking media clips, database management and updates.
  • Complete final end of month, quarterly and end of year reports in a timely fashion.
  • Support agency partners in any given request related to the operation of the business.
External Relationships
  • Have a strong network of local media and business relationships in the city.
  • Work within the parameters of approved communications plans to service clients on a daily basis.
  • Continually touch base with clients to connect on their current initiatives and tartanbond updates.
  • Identify sponsors for events and media activities.
  • Coordinate and plan media and public events.
  • Develop and implement public relations/media activities and strategy, including individual and group press trips, product sampling/gifting initiatives and all pitching.
  • Prepare briefs and liaise with contractors and suppliers.
  • Media relations hosting, networking events, ‘meet and greet’ activities and leading press trips.
  • Identify sponsors for events and media activities.
  • Continual media outreach and pitching.
  • Nurture and develop strategic contacts within local, national and international media.
  • Attend networking and industry events on behalf of the agency to make new connections
