This position will assist with the delivery and implementation of communication plans, media & social media for the corporation in support of the 2022 municipal election and Council inauguration. This includes assisting in researching and tracking issues, maintaining media and issue management files, producing key messages and briefing notes, creating content for the City’s various channels (including website and social media), and supporting media/social media efforts, among other communications assignments. The Coordinator, Election Communications will also assist with internal messaging, as required, among other tasks.


Qualifications and experience:
  • Successful completion of a diploma or undergraduate degree in communications, public relations, or journalism. A post-graduate degree or diploma is preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year’s related experience in public-sector environment responsible for external communications including coordinating media and social media activities.
  • Strong working knowledge of writing for social media platforms and media products.
  • Politically and culturally sensitive.
  • Strong creative and problem-solving skills as well as a solid understanding of writing, grammar and punctuation principles.
  • Proficiency in Canadian Press Style standards.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently manage projects successfully, from start to completion.
  • Superior customer service skills including the ability to work and professionally with staff teams, agencies and external contacts.
  • Thorough working knowledge of computer software packages including Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and Outlook, Excel, with HTML, Adobe Photoshop and In Design skills considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in the City’s core competencies.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours as required
