Are you a senior communication professional with an impressive talent for writing everything from speeches to thought leadership papers? If you answered yes – this position is for you!  NAIT is looking for a Strategic Communication Advisor to provide dedicated communication support to the President and CEO. In this role you will report to the Communication Director and work closely with a team of senior advisors to the President, including the Chief of Staff and the Director of Government Relations. You will collaborate with a centralized team of internal and external communication professionals on strategy to help NAIT achieve its business goals.

The successful candidate is a strategic thinker with experience counseling senior executives on strategy, communication and reputational matters. They are a team player, with the ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Chief of Staff and Government Relations Director to plan and implement proactive communications for the President.
  • Provide strategic writing support to the President including speaking notes, blogs, video scripts, briefing notes and position papers.
  • Collaborate with other communication staff to develop a coordinated Executive communication plan and calendar.
  • Manage the President’s personal brand and identify and support opportunities for thought leadership.
  • Work with other communication staff to develop and coordinate effective strategies and key messages in support of NAIT’s business priorities.
  • Identify communication strategies to help mitigate risk to the organization, the President and Executive.
  • Deliver communication support to the President for activities and responsibilities with external committees and organizations such as Polytechnics Canada and COPPOA.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with the Marketing and Communication and Advancement leadership teams and other staff to create and maintain seamless processes and governance that result in efficient and coordinated communication for all Executive members.

Skills & Abilities:

  • A crisp and compelling writing style with a portfolio of communications materials for a variety of audiences.
  • Strong research skills, superior writing skills and the ability to produce error-free communications in plain language that meet audience needs.
  • Excellent communications planning skills with a proven track record of distilling complex topics and issues into targeted messages and tactics that achieve measurable objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and superior communication skills.
  • Excellent relationship building skills and organization-wide perspective.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt well to change and manage ambiguity, with higher-level critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge of complex planning, development, implementation and project management practices.
  • Technical knowledge; advanced knowledge of MS Office products and social networking platforms.
  • Organization Advocacy - Internal and External.



  • Related post-secondary credentials combined with eight to ten (8 -10) years related communications experience.
  • Experience working with and counseling senior executives on communications matters.
