Web Manager


Job Description

Reporting to the Director, Communications and Public Affairs with a dotted line to the Manager, Corporate Communications, the Web Position also has a close working relationship with Information Technology. The position has overall responsibility for the user experience on IIROC’s external website, working with all IIROC content owners/Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) throughout the organization to ensure content is accurate, up-to-date and can be found easily and intuitively by IIROC’s diverse stakeholders.  The position is ultimately responsible for ensuring that the web site, as IIROC’s “storefront” is attractive and accessible, conveys an appropriately professional image, and that all users can quickly and easily find current and relevant information that meets their information needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advises on website strategy and best practices

  • Regularly and proactively reviews website with a focus on improving the user experience while generating positive impressions of IIROC

  • Works closely with the Manager of Corporate Communications, IT, and rest of the Public Affairs team to manage the website homepage to ensure it is current, relevant and showcases IIROC’s priorities, initiatives and ongoing regulatory functions

  • Proactively monitors and manages content and recommends where content should reside on the public website, using user feedback and industry best practice analytical tools

  • Proactively explores opportunities to create new web features to promote content and raise awareness of new initiatives and IIROC priorities

  • Proactively optimizes content for search engine optimization, staying current on best practices in web communications and ways to attract and engage users

  • Recommends use of, and works with other PA team members and Member Education Services to create and post videos and other graphics to make website more attractive and user-friendly

  • Provides digital content direction for a variety of projects including website, graphics, infographics and videos

  • Maintains IIROC visual identity guidelines and standards across the website

  • Maintains, updates and communicates web content accountabilities, including  documentation of content ownership

  • Takes initiative to develop and enhance strong working relationships with SMEs to ensure appropriate content owners are aware of their responsibilities and understand their objectives in conveying messages in plain language to target audiences

  • Collaborates closely with Information Services team for platform support

  • Develops/maintains key metrics to show progress towards communications and IIROC goals

  • Produces monthly web analytical reports that supports him/her in making recommendations for improving website

  • Communicate metrics to IIROC Management Team, Board of Directors and SMEs, sharing this information along with recommendations to improve the user experience

  • Fields and tracks all internal and external enquiries, comments and suggestions related to content on the website and recommends changes or ways to respond to user needs

  • Participates in steering committees and working groups created to develop and implement business cases for specific web requirements

  • Works with PA Management Team to develop and present to senior management appropriate business cases for capital investments to upgrade IIROC’s website

  • Provides input on vendor selection, manages vendor contracts related to IIROC’s website and acts as a liaison with vendors to manage projects


  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in web communications, digital communications or related field
  • Minimum of five+ years of related experience, preferable in the financial services industry or in a regulatory environment
  • Significant experience with Content Management Systems
  • Demonstrated experience acting as an expert resource and strategic advisor on matters related to web navigation, content and user experience
  • Strong technical knowledge and skills with a focus on the user experience, search engine optimization and other tools to attract users and meet their information needs
  • Previous experience working with and making recommendations/presentations to Senior Management

  • Experience working with web content management systems (ex. SharePoint, Drupal, Wordpress)
  • Strong management, leadership and communication skills with experience making recommendations to senior management

  • Ability to work independently and proactively while ensuring appropriate approvals and engagement of senior management
  • Ability to deal with challenging timelines, deadlines and competing priorities
  • Self-managing with strong time management skills
  • Strong computer/technical skills: proficient working in a PC environment, HTML, web navigation, content management
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Experience dealing with confidential and complex information in a sensitive manner
  • Strong project management skills and proven experience in managing suppliers, projects and deliverables on time and on budget
  • Track record of launching, converting, updating and migrating digital assets
  • Self-motivated, proactive, creative and eager to learn
  • Strong listening skills with an ability to interpret information and translate into web and print materials
  • Ability to plan production schedule and workflow
  • Knowledge of securities/financial services industry or regulatory environment
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated strong portfolio of work for web, including metrics
  • Ability to communicate in French and/or creative design experience would be an asset
