We are currently recruiting for a Senior Media Relations Officer to work with the central communications Media Relations team.  

Are you a professional in the field of public relations/media relations? Do you possess superior verbal and written communication skills? Do you possess tact and diplomacy skills?
In this role, you will provide professional, proactive media relations and communications services for the University. Working within a high energy, fast-paced environment, the SMRO is responsible for working directly with the media, as well as university staff, faculty and administrators. The SMRO must be able to handle media in a crisis situation, particularly in the unforeseen absences of the Chief Spokesperson & Director Media Relations (CS&DMR), and Advisor and Deputy Spokesperson (ADS).


To be considered for this opportunity, you will possess:

A University degree in public relations, journalism, mass communications or equivalent such as Community College Diploma in public relations, communications with a minimum of 2 years experience in public/media relations or four years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined. In addition, the successful incumbent will possess at least 7 years' experience in public relations/media relations or journalism including a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a public relations agency setting or large organization including experience in developing visual and written materials for digital properties.
