The opportunity

Our Public Affairs and Communications Team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence in our Vancouver office to support our Coastal GasLink (CGL) Project.

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Communications Specialist who has knowledge and experience in a broad range of communications strategies and approaches. This individual has the proven skills, competencies and capacity to provide strategic communications and engagement advice, material development and on-the-ground support with engagement activities.

You will play an important role in delivering and producing high content for our digital channels.

About Coastal GasLink

Approximately 670 kilometres, the Coastal GasLink (CGL) pipeline will safely deliver natural gas from the Western Canadian basin in northeast B.C., Dawson Creek area, to the proposed LNG Canada facility on the West Coast near Kitimat, B.C.

What you’ll do

  • Understand the business challenges and opportunities for the CGL project and develop key messages and talking points;
  • Ensure all external materials (including coastalgaslink.com) and presentations have consistent, accurate and pertinent messaging aligned with TransCanada’s brand;
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of communications plans (projects, issues management, media relations, paid and digital media);
  • Develop edit and assist with the distribution of media releases and advisories;
  • Create engaging digital and social media website content, posts, tweets, information and comments to support our social media team;
  • Prepare senior project leaders for external interactions (media interviews, speaking engagements, press conferences and events);
  • Act as a company spokesperson, interacting with the media;
  • Develop and enhance relationships with key members of the media in British Columbia;
  • Support and execute on plans that involve members of the communications, digital and community relations team;
  • Develop integrated internal/external communications strategies that enhance TransCanada’s brand and reputation, support understanding, and drive action;
  • Monitor and measure communications results and continually improve effectiveness.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • University degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or business;
  • Minimum of 6  years' progressive, related experience in various aspects of corporate communications;
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Curiosity, motivation and interest in energy, energy infrastructure and its related societal impact;
  • Team player with a customer service focus – able to build strong relationships and rapport with clients and team members, and meet customer requirements under the pressure of tight deadlines;
  • Strong, versatile, professionally trained writer – able to write in many styles for a variety of internal and external audiences; ranging from developing technical and detailed program information to storytelling and producing engaging content for digital and social media;
  • Project management – able to prioritize and organize communications project work, and coordinate the work of team members;
  • Communications expertise - able to develop integrated internal/external communications strategies and digital marketing plans;
  • Consulting – able to think strategically, weigh issues, and recommend effective solutions; able to navigate and resolve ambiguity;
  • Experience working in corporate, investor-owned environment is an asset;
  • Industry experience in oil and gas, forestry, hydro or related is preferred;
  • Understanding of the political landscape in British Columbia;
  • Experience working and engaging with reporters via interviews, scrums;
  • Experience in media relations, issues management and crisis communications;
  • Experience in being accountable for broad objectives to be accomplished and completed in an independent manner;
  • Ability to analyze issues and develop strategies to mitigate potential negative public perception;
  • Ability to work under the pressure of tight deadlines.
