Job Description

Job Summary

This dynamic role will be responsible for a cross-section of Corporate Affairs responsibilities in both internal communications to drive Associate engagement and external engagement to shape and strengthen Mars’ reputation. With specific attention on Brand PR, this role will establish effective partnership with consumer marketing and agency partners to deliver measurable earned reach, promote brand and corporate reputation and drive the overall category leadership story for Mars. With a dual focus internally, this role will help create a culture of connected, informed and inspired Associates through thoughtful planning and execution of strategic internal communications, aligned with global priorities and local needs.  In addition, this Associate will be accountable for our national community giving program. This role is expected to work collaboratively cross-functionally, within the broader One Mars Canadian community and cross-geography. The role will report to the Director, Corporate Affairs and be a member of the extended Canadian leadership responsible for supporting daily business operations.

Key Accountabilities

Brand & Corporate PR:

  • Partner with Consumer Marketing to shape strategic Brand PR in accordance with brand strategies
  • Establish and maintain effective partnerships with Brand PR agencies and support brand PR budget management
  • Maintain strong understanding of earned media trends to effectively counsel business
  • Develop strategic media relationships to drive brand and corporate stories
  • Support development of communication materials and spokesperson readiness
  • Steward compliance of Mars’ Social Media policies and Mars’ Social Media best practices
  • Own forum for celebrating brand wins internally with Associates, leadership and sales team
  • Support the building of Mars corporate reputation in Canada in partnership with Corporate Affairs Director (strategy development, material drafting)
  • Work in partnership with Canadian One Mars Corporate Affairs community to enhance reputation through coordinated efforts (community events, leadership profile pieces)
  • Collaborate with global Corporate Affairs to share Canada’s PR efforts and support global programs as necessary

    Internal Communications:

  • Create strategic business communications plan designed to successfully deploy business priorities, share progress and build Associate engagement
  • Design and manage internal communications channel strategy, imbedding Mars’ platforms (i.e.: Intranet based communication) 
  • Maintain annual communications calendar to support business communication, Mars signature programs, culture events and brand celebrations
  • Actively collaborate with Mars global internal communications community to deliver global communications as needed (corporate announcements, Town Halls)
  • Support delivery of change communication as necessary
  • Support management of corporate community partnerships, MVP (Mars Volunteer Program) and corporate giving
  • Support management of Associate events, including national meetings
  • Support management of Mars’ signature issues management process

Key Competencies

  • Strong understanding of media relations practices and Canadian media channels
  • Experience with leading development and implementation of strategic Brand PR for CPG or similar category
  • Strong writing skills
  • Understanding of social media practices and influencer marketing to deliver earned reach
  • Previous experience with event management, with superior attention to planning
  • Ability to work in partnership with community partners to support Mars’ Five Principles and drive Associate participation
  • Comfort with budget management to deliver efficient and effective programs
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and work independently and cross-teams

Required Experience:

  • 3-5 years Corporate communications and Brand PR experience at global PR agency or consumer packaged goods company
  • Experience working across teams, in fast paced environment
  • Comfort working with senior leadership
  • Client or partner relationship experience

Desired Education 

  • Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or similar preferred
