Job Description

Reports to: Senior Manager, Engagement and Communications, Communications Department

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Status: Full Time Permanent

Start Date: ASAP

The Communications Department at the Real Estate Council of BC is seeking a strategic thinker and project manager who commands a wide range of communication skills to join our team as a Media Relations and Stakeholder Relations Specialist. This role works collaboratively within the Communications team and is responsible for the development and implementation of proactive media strategies, opportunities, approaches, and initiatives to enhance awareness, understanding, and support for RECBC among the media and related audiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Develops and implements strategies, communications plans, and tactics in relation to communications and stakeholder engagement issues
  • Engages with, builds and maintains strong relationships with local/regional media and numerous external stakeholders including industry members, government officials
  • Works closely with internal clients to interpret communication needs and provides expert advice
  • Acts as the primary point of contact of all media inquiries at RECBC
  • Develops and implements proactive media and public relations strategies to enhance awareness of RECBC
  • Develops, writes, edits and disseminates media related products
  • Creates and maintains project timelines and schedules that support the completion of projects
  • Performs other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in communications, public relations or journalism
  • 5 years of relevant senior communication experience, not-for-profit or regulatory organization preferred
  • Proven experience working with public stakeholders, supporting major projects, working with volunteers and committees, and providing strategic advice to senior leaders and board members
  • Self-starter, resourceful, creative, and capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and cooperatively within a team
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to write for a range of media including newsletters, e-communications, websites, reports, social media, stakeholder engagement, etc
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and protect confidential information
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to interact professionally with all levels in the organization
  • Occasional travel may be required
