Your role

As Manager, Marketing, Communications and Brand, you will create and execute strategic and innovative marketing and communications strategies to help CBC Calgary reach and connect with audiences in Southern Alberta. Reporting directly to the local Senior Director- Journalism & Programming, you will be a senior leader in helping CBC grow its online, radio and television audiences in the Calgary market by supporting the CBC network and helping the local team meet and exceed their strategic priorities: Content, Community and Culture. You will also be assisting in general management of the operations of the station.

With your expertise in strategy and leadership, you will become a trusted advisor to senior leaders across the organization. These skills will also prepare you to manage the high-functioning marketing and communications team where you will be responsible for all aspects of their professional and performance development in a work culture that is inclusive, creative, responsive and resilient.

You are passionate about your community and believe that bringing people together creates a shared understanding and a deeper sense of belonging. You are a collaborator and have a natural ability to build and cultivate relationships with colleagues and partners.

You are a creative storyteller who skillfully uses words and images in creating content to increase brand awareness. With a risk-taking spirit, you will be responsible for negotiating key public relations, marketing, advertising, event, sponsorships and partnership opportunities that support the station’s overall direction, priorities and programming needs which in turn will grow audience in the Calgary market.

You are a leader, a team player and a generalist - capable of presenting in a boardroom one day, and working the tent at a public community event the following day. You are comfortable engaging people from a variety of backgrounds.

You are skilled at pitching your ideas and have experience in media relations.


We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Post-secondary education in Communications and/or Marketing or related discipline. Background in journalism is not necessary, but considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Calgary market and CBC TV, Radio and Digital programming.
  • Minimum five years of experience in strategic marketing, including at least three (3) in employee management.
  • Relevant experience must include internal communications, traditional, digital and social marketing, communications planning; brand management, issues management, publicity, public relations, event management and advertising.
  • Demonstrable skill in developing key relationships and partnership opportunities that directly support business objectives.
  • Established relationships with key community organizations and businesses.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in management and reporting of financial resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proven experience leading and coaching a high performance team.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle complex and concurrent issues and projects.
  • Able to function well and direct others under pressure and in crisis management situations.
  • Ability to travel on occasion as well as work long and/or irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
