Job Description

In this role you will serve as a key strategic advisor to the President and CEO, Executive Team and program areas in managing issues, sharing information with government and building effective stakeholder relationships. The incumbent acts as a brand ambassador for AGLC, helping to maintain and enhance our positive reputation within the community. The Manager, Issues and Stakeholder Engagement must have a collaborative style, as they will work closely with the Manager, Communications and Manager, Brand and Digital Media to ensure a coordinated approach at all times to support the organization’s strategic needs.

This role is expected to lead the development and implementation of issues management strategies and processes to efficiently coordinate and facilitate communications and information flow. This role also manages the coordination and delivery of corporate correspondence and briefing materials to government and stakeholders. This work includes the need for impeccable written and spoken communications skills to ensure content quality, accuracy, completeness, political sensitivity and reflection of AGLC policy or position, as well as oversight of the web feedback system.

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess strong written and verbal communications skills and have the ability to initiate action independently using sound judgement and creativity. Travel within Alberta may be expected as part of this role to support stakeholder meetings and conferences as required.


  • Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy or related area of study with 4 years or more of experience in, issues management, stakeholder engagement, communications and/or analysis.
  • Experience in leading a team focused on issues management and stakeholder engagement. 
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.

The following experience would be considered assets:

  • Mediation or conflict resolution training. 
  • Completion of the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) foundational program.
  • Ongoing education in fields of study related to the position, such as stakeholder engagement, communication management, etc.
  • • Strong change management, project management and organizational skills.

NOTE: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary. This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies. 

NOTE: To be eligible to work for AGLC, you must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or eligible to work in Canada.  As a condition of employment you will be required to obtain a security clearance prior to employment.


Corporate Strategic Services Division:  The division provides enterprise-wide services supporting management throughout the organization as well as external stakeholders.  The division includes strategy and planning; policy and communications, enterprise risk and business continuity and internal audit.  The focus of the division is on creating and implementing programs to support management meet or achieve their strategic and operational objectives.
Issue and Stakeholder Relations

The Issues and Stakeholder Engagement unit is a part of the Communications, Digital Media and Brand team. The unit supports program areas in managing issues, sharing information with government, and in building effective external stakeholder relationships. The team acts as brand ambassadors for the AGLC helping to maintain our positive reputation within the community. The combined approach of stakeholder and customer-focused service delivery ensures the alignment of internal staff toward meeting Albertans’ expectations of the AGLC.
