The Role

Enhancing and managing our online presence is critical in illustrating who we are and what we stand behind, which is why this position is so important. 

Working closely with internal and external subject matter experts, you will gain a solid understanding of our business and stakeholder concerns. In this collaborative role, you will create compelling visuals and join online conversations to advance our corporate story. You will develop dynamic communications materials that not only focus on addressing stakeholder priorities, but also serve to differentiate our company and build our brand. As a result, demonstrated graphic design and writing skills as well as a keen attention to detail are required.

This position reports to the Team Lead, External Communications & Reputation Management.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Enhance our online presence through the expansion of our digital tools including our website and social media channels
  • Continually update our digital tools to ensure the content reflects key industry issues and company activities, including creating and scheduling content
  • Develop web pages, videos, graphics and other communications tools
  • Analyze our digital performance data to monitor the effectiveness of the formats and channels, and conduct best practice research on ways to more effectively reach targeted audiences
  • Research, recommend and lead advertising campaigns including drafting related copy and reports
  • Identify emerging business issues as well as communications platforms
  • Collaborate with the broader External Affairs & Communications team to ensure cross-functional understanding of organizational challenges, and to align messaging internally and externally
  • Understand key issues facing the oil and gas industry as well as stakeholder interests and concerns
  • Develop thoughtful communications plans to address stakeholder interests and concerns and highlight our company strategy
  • Ensure content is current and accurate across all communications tools
  • Participate on internal and external committees as required
  • Assist with crisis communications activities and other tools and projects as required

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience and Skills

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Media Studies or Public Relations
  • 5+ years of experience developing and managing websites and social media channels
  • Prior experience working in the energy industry and/or within a large multinational organization is preferred
  • Exceptional writing skills and ability to effectively package information for a variety of audiences
  • Knowledge of current and emerging communications concepts, practices and tools
  • Continuously explores opportunities to innovate and streamline established work processes
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with competing priorities, and respond quickly to time-sensitive issues
  • Demonstrated complex problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Periodic travel may be required
