Director, Communications & Public Relations (Bilingual Imperative)

Reporting to the President & CEO the Director, Communications & Public Affairs will:

  • Work with the ESAC team and members to develop and implement a proactive and comprehensive media and public relations strategy to convey to government, consumers and the public the positive impacts of the video game industry;
  • Manage ESAC’s brand and all public relations activities;
  • Manage the development of speeches, presentations, media releases and other materials that allow ESAC to communicate its message;
  • In collaboration with the Communications Coordinator, oversee ESAC’s online presence;
  • Develop contacts and relationships with reporters and media professionals across the country and at key national outlets;
  • Manage events that ESAC produces, including the annual Video Games on the Hill showcase in Ottawa;
  • Oversee the various research projects that the organization conducts and manage the process with the external consultants conducting the study;
  • Monitor media and key industry issues;
  • Provide advice and support to the President & CEO on media and communications issues and when the CEO conducts media interviews;
  • Serve as industry spokesperson when the President & CEO is not available;
  • Represent ESAC at government and industry events when required;
  • Participate in quarterly board of directors’ meetings by presenting updates on PR activities undertaken by the organization;
  • Occasional travel, both national and international, is required in this position;
  • Assume other responsibilities as required.

Skills and Attributes

  • Fluency in English and French, spoken and written, is a requirement for this position;
  • Extensive experience in a similar role focused on leading communications and public affairs within government, not-for-profit organization and/or public relations firm.
  • Excellent ability to work in a team environment along with the ability to work independently;
  • Ability to multi-task and/or pivot from one file to another as priorities shift;
  • Ability to work with broad array of stakeholders to build clear and impactful messaging;
  • Excellent customer service disposition with an acute understanding of the critical importance of delivering value for the membership;
  • Knowledge of government functions and of the legislative process;
  • Excellent public speaking skills;
  • Knowledge about the video game industry is an asset.
