DESCRIPTION

On April 6, 2018, the unimaginable happened when the Humboldt Broncos Junior A hockey team’s bus collided with a semi-truck at a quiet remote intersection in northeast Saskatchewan. Sixteen of the twenty-nine passengers on the bus were killed – the remaining thirteen were left with lasting physical and emotional scars.

The Broncos’ organization and Humboldt community, overwhelmed and reeling from this horrific tragedy, engaged Grant Bastedo and his team from Takt Communications to assist with crisis management and media relations.

Join us to hear Grant share the lessons they learned, while managing one of the most widely-covered tragedies in recent memory. His presentation will give you a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to deal with a major crisis. He’ll explain how Takt’s small team overcame seemingly insurmountable issues, under intense time pressures, with the world’s media on the doorstep.

This talk will explore:

The Crisis Within the Crisis: Learn how advanced crisis planning can significantly reduce stress and chaos during a crisis.

Communications Triage:

Learn how to determine priorities, assign tasks and regain control during a crisis.

Keeping the World on Your Side:

Hear about the amazing outpouring of support from empathetic hockey fans and the challenges accommodating requests, managing gifts and expressing the appropriate gratitude.
