When businesses, not-for-profit groups and governments need to communicate effectively with people inside and outside the organization, they turn to public relations practitioners. Conestoga’s PR diploma program allows you to meet the challenge, mastering a wide range of communication techniques and strategies, from media conferences and speeches to publications, websites and social media. Our faculty members bring decades of industry experience to the classroom and cover every stage of the PR process. You’ll learn how to conduct research, plan campaigns, write and produce compelling messages and help your organization manage its reputation. Our graduates emerge able to think strategically, write with flair and execute with confidence. The program includes a 6-week practicum work placement and a final capstone exam, providing you with significant work for your portfolio and the confidence to pursue employment in public relations.

Please note that our diploma graduates have the opportunity to bridge into our Bachelor of Public Relations degree program.

Sample career paths: Communication positions in organizations of all sizes and in all sectors, including high tech, arts and culture, financial services, sports and entertainment, health care and not-for-profits. Many grads also build their careers working for PR agencies or building one of their own.

The Masters of Public Relations (MPR) program in the Department of Communication Studies at MSVU offers you a unique opportunity for advanced education in public relations. In this program, you will develop a deep and meaningful understanding of the discipline of Public Relations—its philosophies, its principles, and how these apply to professional practice.

The MPR program is an applied (non-thesis) program for Bachelor of Public Relations graduates, as well as graduates of other programs with professional experience in the field. It will prepare you to excel as a practitioner, and to become a leader in your field. The program is offered via a flexible learning format. Our students learn alongside classmates across the country and beyond through a collaborative, dynamic, and interactive learning environment. As a full- or part-time student in this degree you can earn your degree entirely online, supported by a team of faculty and staff committed to your success. Upon acceptance to the program, you will be paired with a faculty advisor who will work with you throughout your degree to set and meet educational and professional goals.

Canada's first four-year Bachelor of Public Relations was established at MSVU in 1977. Since that time, more than 2000 graduates have established careers in Canada and beyond. Housed in the Department of Communication Studies at MSVU, this program offers you a foundation in writing, research, planning, implementation and evaluation that prepares them to work in a variety of areas. The BPR degree also includes a co-operative education component that will provide you with a total of 12 months of real-world work experience in progressively challenging public relations positions. In addition to your co-op experience, students you will also have the option of choosing to participate in an international exchange where you may study abroad with one of our international partners. The MSVU BPR degree is nationally recognized as an outstanding program, and with extensive hands-on experience MSVU PR graduates are very competitive in the job market. Program graduates today work as communication advisors, marketing communication specialists, writers, public relations/public affairs managers, account executives, consultants, and event planners, just to name a few examples. MSVU BPR graduates also work in a wide range of specialist areas like employee communication, investor relations, media relations, crisis communication and community relations.

Program Prerequisites:

In addition to Mount Saint Vincent University standard admission requirements, grade XI and XII academic or advanced mathematics are required.

Today's public relations professionals must be able to design both external and internal communication plans and integrate the new theoretical and practical models of public relations into practice. This exclusively online program meets these needs, preparing you to think critically, develop teamwork skills and a strong work ethic, and manage time effectively while working under the pressure of deadlines and multiple projects. You will acquire valuable writing skills and have a better understanding and application of research. Instructors of the program have extensive experience in communication planning and developing communication tools.

This 10-course program is designed for those entering a career, or already working in PR and other related fields, in public or private sectors, who wish to pursue professional development or earn a recognized credential.
