BUSINESS CASE

Department of Justice, Prairie Region staff is spread throughout Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. The Senior Regional Director (SRD) determined that departmental issues were not being communicated to its staff as quickly and completely as desired. Managers were challenged to improve internal communications. The answer was to create a BLOG utilizing social media tools and the technology

TARGET AUDIENCE

Discover the length of time it took to train 600 legal and corporate employees to use the BLOG?

OBJECTIVES

Although some Government of Canada departments have external blogs that do not require the same stringent guidelines that would apply to an internal Justice blog, could the top echelons of Justice Canada be convinced that security would not be breached? And these challenges also needed to be addressed:

  • was it possible to design and implement a successful technical infrastructure along with guidelines
  • would the BLOG be easy to use, give staff direct access to the SRD, and eliminate information gate keeping
  • what about employee buy-in

RESULT

With little budgets and some staff incentives, could employees learn to rely on this technology? Was it a tool that could inject comradery into daily routine? How did the SRD fit into the BLOG? And what about quantifiable results? Stay tuned.
