A comprehensive compilation of the texts of all speeches delivered since 1903 is available on the Empire Club of Canada web site. Included are the complete texts of more than 3,000 Canadian business, political, religious and artistic leaders, as well as notable world figures such as His Holiness The Dalai Lama, Bill Gates, Winston Churchill, Vladimir Putin, and hundreds of others. Texts are cross-indexed by speaker, subject matter, dates, decades, and key words. This invaluable research tool for many uses from speech writing to promotional initiatives is free (attribution is expected: The Empire Club of Canada). The 2008 Euprera Congress (European Association for Public Relations Research and Education) will take place in Milan, Italy on October 16-18, 2008 at the IULM University Campus. The theme will be Institutionalizing Public Relations and Corporate Communication. The Congress is organized by FERPI (Italian Federation of Public Relations) and IULM University.
The Euprera 2008 Congress Organizing Team has put out a Call for Papers and Congress information. The deadline for abstract submissions is December 1st 2007. Send to euprera2008@iulm.it. In addition, a Special Prize will be awarded by the IPR (Institute for Public Relations) for the best new research on the personal influence model of public relations. Any accepted paper that explicitly addresses the prize will be eligible.

2007 Torchia Scholarship Winner Announced
Heather Bisset of Dorval, Quebec, is the winner of the first Torchia Scholarship in Public Relations/Communications, awarded by the Communications and Public Relations Foundation. The $1,500 Scholarship was established to recognize a student who best exemplifies the spirit and practice of bilingualism in the Canadian communications and public relations profession. (read more)

The Canadian Public Relations Society has now launched a NEW online Request for Proposals as part of the revamped Career Section. Priced separately for Members and Non-Members this new feature offers those seeking public relations services the opportunity to post a Request for Proposals that can be accessed by CPRS Members only. Employers can also now post jobs on the site and any public relations practitioner looking for a new position can access job listings.

PR industry loses prominent member. Charles Fremes, President and CEO of Edelman’s Canadian operations passed away from a heart attack on May 7th. Word has spread quickly within the Canadian public relations community as he enjoyed a very high profile and successful career. Charles was 57. There will be a funeral service for Charles on Wednesday May 9 at 1:00p.m. at Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel, 2401 Steeles Avenue West, North York (between Keele and Dufferin). There will also be a memorial service for Charles to celebrate his life in the weeks to come.

The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) was saddened to learn of the passing of Charles Tisdall, APR, Fellow CPRS on Saturday, March 24, 2007, in his 88th year. Mr. Tisdall joined CPRS in 1950 and received his APR designation in 1971. He served as National President from 1963-64 and was one of CPRS's first Fellows awarded in 1999. He received the Society's Lamp of Service Award in 1965 and the CPRS Award of Attainment in 1972. He founded the Communications and Public Relations Foundation in 1979 and in 2005, he established the prestigious Diana and Charles Tisdall Lecture in Communications, a series of presentations by top leaders in the public relations community, emphasizing his values of understanding, ethics, accountability, and community goodwill. The lecture is presented annually at the CPRS national conference..

Inspired by the career of Armand Torchia, who co-founded The Houston Group with Stan Houston, and Torchia Communications with his son Jean-Claude, the Scholarship adheres to the values espoused by Torchia Communications in providing quality services in both of Canada's official languages.
