Public-Private Partnership In Nova Scotia CPRS Don Rennie Memorial Award Recipient For 2007

Toronto, ON, June 18 2007 - A public-private partnership in Nova Scotia has been recognized with the Don Rennie Memorial Award for Excellence in Government Public Relations. The partnership, comprised of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the Canada/Nova Scotia Business Service Centre, and the Metropolitan Immigrant Settlement Association, collaborated on the development and promotion of a publication aimed at assisting immigrant entrepreneurs in starting a business in Nova Scotia. The 2007 award was presented during the Canadian Public Relations Society's (CPRS) Annual Conference in Edmonton, Alberta on June 15th. Robyn Quinn, APR, formerly a Senior Communications Officer with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, accepted the award on behalf of the partners. "The Don Rennie Memorial Award recognizes outstanding team achievement in developing and executing a strategic approach to government communications on a specific issue. This award is open to government communications professionals in federal, provincial or municipal jurisdictions, said Karen Dalton, APR, Executive Director, CPRS.

"The team's submission entitled, Connections - An immigrant's guide to starting a business in Nova Scotia was considered by the jury members to be of very high quality from the identification of the specific issue to be addressed, the strategic planning process employed and the execution. The jury was impressed by the sensitivity demonstrated by the project team to the social and cultural differences of the main target audience of the immigrant's guide. The involvement of stakeholders was essential and central to the success of this project. Jury members also noted the exceptional quality of the writing in both languages," added Dalton.

Entries must reflect Don Rennie's vision of excellence in strategic communications and be relevant to the complexities of a government environment. Entries should demonstrate a good balance of the organization's mission, defining what it is; what it wants to be; what it wants to do; and what external factors influence it. Established in 1998 in memory of public relations professional Don Rennie, the Award has been given to seven recipients to date. Other recipients include Valerie E. Barrett, Statistics Canada, Pacific Region; Steve Flanagan, Hydro Quebec; Lois Reimer, Citizenship and Immigration Canada; Dennis Guy, City of Hamilton; and Philippe Roy, ARP and Gilles Trudeau, ARP Authorité des marches financiers and Tara Sprigg, City of Guelph.
