Élaine Chatigny

Élaine Chatigny is Director General of Communications at the Public Health Agency of Canada. She is responsible for risk communications, crisis communications, strategic communications planning, media relations, social marketing, Web communications, and a host of other Communications functions. Prior to joining the Agency, Ms. Chatigny was Director of Public Affairs with the Communications Branch at Health Canada.

In her nine years with the Government of Canada, Ms. Chatigny has demonstrated ongoing leadership in the areas of crisis and risk communications. She was responsible for the development of Health Canada’s and the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Risk Communications Framework and Handbook, which is unique to the Government of Canada, and established units in these areas to ensure Agency capacity and expertise in these fields.

Ms. Chatigny has been an external advisor to the World Health Organization on pandemic influenza communications planning, co-chair of the Communicators’ Network of the Global Health Security Initiative (G7 plus Mexico), and is co-chair of a Federal, Provincial, and Territorial communications task group reporting to the Public Health Network Council.

Prior to joining the federal government, Ms. Chatigny worked for 14 years with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as a journalist and a manager.
